Teaching is my passion
Many people ask me why I teach seventh and eighth graders. Here's the thing: I have always had a warped sense of humor, and the middle school students like that! This age group of kids is right in between being a child and a young adult, and I get to witness and be a part of this transformation. I believe in teaching the whole student, not just the academic dimension. There are so many important life lessons to learn WHILE filling students' heads up with knowledge. Natural consequences, organization, friendship, teamwork, collaboration, conflict, responsibility, and self-examination are very important skills for students to master, and we work on all of these in our classroom. Our classroom size is big enough to work in small groups, but small enough to adapt to different student needs. We work hard but have fun at the same time.
SCS is awesome
Additionally, Silverton Christian School (SCS) hires only licensed, professional teachers for grades K-8, and there are never more than 20 students per classroom. All the teachers are part of the local Silverton Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) so that we stay current on educational issues, laws, and trends. Like public schools all across the United States, we are aligning our curriculum with the Core Curriculum standards to ensure our students meet high academic standards. Unlike public schools, we do not receive federal funds, so we have fewer restrictions and no state testing, which allows for more creativity and a Christian perspective. All of us teachers at SCS mix traditional teaching with as much hands-on and experiential learning as possible.
